Planning a Visit to Our Dairy?

We will be ready to receive and serve you! Very soon! Though we experienced a few additional delays, we are working hard to ensure we can finally open our retail store and dairy to the public on Saturday, June 6th. In the meantime, we are happy to offer private tours of our green dairy with advance notice. Just email your request to us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and we will do our best to accomodate your group!

The major construction work is complete. We are now in the process of completing the installation and commissioning of all the equipment. We are also working at re-naturalizing the construction site area. For our receiving area gardens, we are working with Vicki Emlaw and Tim Noxon (Vicki's Veggies) and their team to plant over 2000 Cardoon plants (for rennet making) and Calendula (For our Petal Luma cheese) around the dairy.

LFP Certification Underway for FT Dairy Farms

image

Fifth Town and the farms who plan to supply us have committed to Local Food Plus certification. Local Food Plus (LFP) is an award winning non-profit organization that brings farmers and consumers to the table to share in the benefits of environmentally and socially responsible food production. Certified farms work to employ sustainable production systems that: Reduce or eliminate synthetic pesticides and fertilizers; Avoid the use of hormones, antibiotics, and genetic engineering; and conserve soil and water; Provide safe and fair working conditions for on-farm labour; Provide healthy and humane care for livestock; Protect and enhance wildlife habitat and biodiversity on working farm landscapes; Reduce food-related energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through energy conservation, recycling, minimal packaging, and local sales.

Congratulations to Capricorn View (Iannuzzi's), the Grevelings and the DeCastris farms (all of whom supply us) for having recently become certified by LFP!

FT Signs Agreement with Bullfrog Power!

Fifth Town Artisan Cheese

FT is committed to clean and efficient energy use. So we invested in a windmill and solar panel system to serve our hydro needs however, operating a dairy requires a great deal of reliable energy. So we are pleased to announce that all power required beyond what our own clean energy configuration can provide will be provided by Bull Frog Power. Bullfrog Power is the first electricity retailer in Ontario to sell power exclusively from wind and low-impact water power generators. For more information, visit www.bullfrogpower.com
