TASTE! A celebration of regional cuisine

Fifth Town will once again be presenting on Saturday, Oct. 7th!

This year’s TASTE! program is once again going to please the palette and provide attendees with a sampling of what this fabulous area has to offer. The theme this year is partnerships. And the Fifth Town seminar will focus our partners in cheese making:  the dairy farmer.

An excerpt from their program brochure is featured below:

Hands and Lands: The Making of Artisan Style Cheeses

Have you every wondered what makes a cheese “artisan”?  Would you love to know what is involved in the making of artisan cheese?  And do you think you can taste the difference?  In this 45 minute educational session, Petra Cooper will provide an overview of the artisan’s cheese philosophy, highlight the role and critical importance of the artisan’s relationship with its local dairy farm partners, demonstrate the steps involved in making artisan style cheese, as well as discuss the characteristics and flavor profiles of the most important foundation for any great cheese—the milk.  Participants will also have the opportunity to sample some terrific Ontario artisan cheeses.  See if you can taste the difference!

Petra Cooper is the owner and operator of the Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company which is currently working to build a 4200 sq. ft, LEED certified artisan cheese facility in North Marysburgh, Prince Edward County.  Petra is also The County’s Slow Food Convivium Leader as well as a founding member and current Chair of the Ontario Cheese Society.
