Fifth Town Participates in Two Fall Events
On October 8th, Fifth Town will be presenting at the TASTE! event in Prince Edward County. And on November 15th, we will be making a return appearance on the Canadian Cooking Stage at the Royal Winter Fair with a demonstration entitled: Making Cheese at Home with Store Bought Milk.
Here is a description of Fifth Town’s presentation at TASTE!: Revival of a Culinary Tradition: Making Cheese at Home
with Petra Cooper of Fifth Town Artisan Cheese
Prince Edward County has a long history in cheese making and at one time was host to over 25 cheese dairies. In those days, milk drawn from local dairy cows was sent to the closest cheese dairy where largely the local farmer’s wives made cheese to be sold to distant markets. Having learned their craft well, many also made cheese for their own family’s use at home. Nowadays, and for a host of reasons, almost no one in North America makes cheese at home and cheese making is close to becoming a lost culinary art. In this session, Petra Cooper of Fifth Town Artisan Cheese will show you how easy it is to make simple cheeses at home with yes, store bought milk! Raw milk cheese devotees might cringe at the thought of cheese made with store bought milk but don’t judge until you try! The demonstration will be followed by a cheese tasting featuring a variety of cheeses made and ripened at home.
