County Enjoys Fruits of Rural Renaissance
Known as the Garden of Canada in the early 1900s, Prince Edward County once produced 50 per cent of all the tomatoes grown in Canada and was famous for its canning industry, Taylor says.
The county fell into relative obscurity, however, until about 15 years ago when artists and artisans from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal inexplicably began to migrate into the region in ever increasing numbers. Today there are more than 100 artisans in the county.

It’s Not Easy Being Cheese
Below is a copy of a terrific article on artisan cheese written by Julia Rogers of Cheese Culture. The article was published in City Bites magaine which is distributed as an insert into the urbanites metro must-read NOW Magazine. City Bites is said to be Toronto’s only magazine dedicated solely to covering the Toronto food and drink scene. Petra Cooper along with other Ontario Cheese Society members were interviewed for the article.
