History of Fifth Town

Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company and Fifth Town Productions are both divisions of Cressy Gourmet Investments, which was incorporated in 2002. Fifth Town was founded by Petra Kassun-Mutch, whose vision and determination saw the dairy grow from an idea to Canada’s greenest dairy and important member of Prince Edward County’s business community. After several years in design and development the dairy officially opened in June 2008 with only 5 employees and three farm suppliers. We made our first batch of cheese at the dairy on July 2nd, 2008. Since then, Fifth Town has grown to over 16 employees with 7 farm suppliers, and generates well over $1.2M in revenues annually.

In 2011, Petra Kassun-Mutch stepped down from her role as President, but remains a shareholder in the company. Christine Legein was appointed interim president in August 2011. Christine is currently Vice President of CCC Investment Banking, a leading midmarket Canadian investment bank with a specialization in the food processing industry.

Since our opening, Fifth Town has won over 35 awards for our cheese and sustainability initiatives and our presence in retail and foodservice establishments continues to grow. Our customers and community inspire us to make great cheese in the greenest way possible and we thank them for their ongoing support!
